Newsletter
December 2017
A Note from the Executive Director
My sincere thanks to you, our members of Active Aging Canada. Your membership is so vital to this organization and the initiation of this e-newsletter is intended to hopefully keep you better informed of the projects being undertaken by Active Aging Canada.
There is so much being sent via email these days, that it is not our intention to inundate you with pages and pages of articles to read, but we do hope that by sending you a short e-newsletter bi-monthly you will have a better idea of the organization's operations, projects and membership benefits.
We want to highlight our members, show case the great programs that are being offered at the centres, and keep you informed about projects being managed by the office. There are many benefits to being a member of Active Aging Canada, and I thought that for the first issue, we should perhaps highlight our organization and the benefits of your membership. In addition, on behalf of the entire Board of Directors, we would like to wish you all the best of the season and good fortune for the New Year.
Sincerely,
Patricia Clark
National Executive Director

Leadership Facilitation Training Opportunities
In October, 16 community leaders from Southern Ontario, participated in a two-day 'Leadership Facilitation Training Workshop' in Bowmanville, Ontario. Funding has been received from the Ontario Sport and Recreation Community Fund Program, to provide this workshop, and in turn, the leaders have committed to offering two Healthy Living Workshops for Older Adults in their community centres, over the next 12 months.
And even more exciting for us is that we will also have the opportunity to follow up with the participants at 1, 3 and 6 month intervals after the completion of the Healthy Living Workshop. This will allow us to determine the success of the workshop as it relates to their success at maintaining their lifestyle behaviour changes that were initiated during their 6-week Healthy Living Workshop.
We are very excited about this follow up research opportunity and we will share with you the results when available. We are now looking at funding from other provinces to be able to offer this training to other community leaders. If you know of any funding and want to partner with us to offer the training in your province, please call the office to discuss.
