Active Aging Canada was pleased to be a part of the knowledge mobilization committee for the just released 2025 ParticipACTION Report Card on Physical Activity.
The report is the most up-to-date and assessment of physical activity in Canada and highlights that the physical activity levels of adults living in Canada have remained low for years, revealing that only 46% of the general Canadian population meet guidelines. Here are a few highlights for adults age 65 years and older:
- 31% of adults 65 years of age and older reported that they performed exercises that challenged their balance
- 28% of adults 65 years of age and older reported that they met the muscle-strengthening activities recommendation
- 30% of adults 65 to 79 years of age met the moderate-to-vigorous physical activity recommendation
- 13% of adults 65 years of age and older participated in sport within the last 12 months
Active Aging Canada will continue our efforts to help support older adults of all abilities to get active. As this report card is disseminated, we will be highlighting and sharing our resources that support each of the indicators measured in the report card.
